The Best of Jerry Popp
The Best of Jerry Popp Right out of college, Coach Popp migrated to Bowman, North Dakota, in the "Wild West" part of the state. There he developed a boys and girls Cross Country program that is now in the record books: 39 state championships. The Bowman girls team holds the national record for the most state titles. During many seasons, the Bowman boys and girls teams both won state championships. After being honored as National Boys and National Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year, Popp was inducted into the National High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Since moving to Willmar, Minnesota, in 2004, Coach Popp's WHS boys team has become the dominant power in the state. Twice they have appeared at the Nike Team Nationals after being ranked as high as seventh in the nation. Fortunately, Jerry Popp's talents are not confined to coaching. He is an excellent presenter at coaching clinics and is a very good writer. Knowles Dougherty, publisher of the Cross Country Journal, has now compiled everything Coach Popp has written in the Journal. In his writing, he gets to the heart of what has served him so well as a coach. Any coach, no matter how experienced, will learn something of value in this compilation. 34 pages. | |
