The Long Green Line: Joe Newton's First Book
The Long Green Line First published in 1969 and out of print for several years, IDEA, Inc. made exclusive arrangements to do a reprinting. This was Joe Newton's first major effort to explain the phenomenal success he was having with his Cross Country team at York High School in Elmhurst, Ill. By 1969, York had won seven consecutive conference championships, giving rise to fans and opponents referring to the team as "the long green line," green being the predominant school color. During those seven years, York took three firsts, one second and two thirds at the Illinois State Meet. The Long Green Line is a 209-page manual on exactly how Coach Newton built his program to those heights in just 8 years. It is complete with recruiting and motivational techniques, numerous charts for pace, workout schedules and even a unique meet scoring system. |
