Training Profiles: High School Boys Distance
Training Profiles: High School Boys Distance John Nepolitan sent a questionnaire to the 2002 Footlocker Finalists and others who finished in the top 20 in their Footlocker Regionals. In addition, he sent one to several dozen recent high school graduates who have gone on to successful distance-running careers in college and beyond. Altogether, 71 questionnaires were returned in which the respondents told of their high school training. This book compiles the responses. The questionnaire covered the following topics: high school name and location, how the runner first got interested in distance running, titles and honors won, best performances, the annual progression in each event, workout and meet warm-ups, mental preparation for races, cross training, summer training, typical weeks of training (in cross country, indoor track and in outdoor track), pre-race rituals and the name of — and thoughts about — the coach. As John said in his introduction, "I hope you enjoy this work as much as I did putting it together. If each person who reads this book finds just one thing to use in their own training or coaching, then it was worth it." |
